2020 Camp Kroc Update

May 21, 2020 | by Jorge Andrade

Hello Camp Kroc Families,

I hope this message finds you and your camper(s) well!  We at Camp Kroc miss all of you and are praying for your wellbeing and safety.

Since March 2020, our Kroc Center team has been busy providing day camp to the children of critical care workers through our C.A.R.E. Camp. This has allowed us to refine our best practices to best keep children and staff safe while still having a fun & engaging camp experience. We are carrying these modifications forward into our summer camp experience and would like to outline them for you below.

Camp 2020 Modifications

In line with COVID-19 Government Prevention Practices and our American Camp Association Accreditation we are modifying our camp program to best ensure safety by:

Educating our Campers and Counselors on practicing social distancing and good hygiene.

Drastically increasing our sanitation procedures.

Practicing good hygiene with our campers and designating restrooms specific to their group.

Hosting smaller camp groups to allow for social distancing.

Keeping our camp groups stable by not co-mingling camp groups into theatre and gym.

Hosting Private camp times for swimming and ice skating. (subject to county re-opening dates)

Minimizing cross campus traveling by rotating fun activities into their camp zone.

Not utilizing equipment that cannot be cleaned between each touch. (i.e. climbing wall, obstacle course, playground) (subject to relaxation based on country re-opening dates)

We will, however, continue to provide a fun, engaging and safe experience for your camper(s)!

Sign in Procedures and Health Checks

In line with social distancing, our sign-in and drop-off procedures are currently being reworked. With the safety of all campers in mind we will be doing daily health checks that include a no touch temperature read. Campers will need to clear the daily health check to attend camp. To decrease the number of individuals that the campers can come-into-contact with, we are asking parents to drop off before the camper ONLY areas.

Camp Hours

In order to not have to raise the price of camp, due to increased staffing cost of smaller camp groups, we are adjusting our camp hours to 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will maintain our $1/minute/child late charge.

Snack and Lunch

We will continue to provide your camper with a warm lunch and afternoon snack. As, we will not be utilizing water fountains, we highly encourage you to send your camper will a labeled water bottle.

Notice Regarding Sports and Specialty Camps

In line with the current restrictions, and with the knowledge that parents need to secure camps immediately, we made the extremely difficult decision to not host Sports Camps and a handful of Specialty and Spiritual Discovery Camps.  We are converting the Junior Lifeguards and Intro to Water Polo into a class. More information to follow. We look forward to seeing our campers every year and hope to see your camper this year. Campers enrolled in these camps outlined below have the opportunity to be moved into our Kroc Adventures camp’s and will be provided a credit/refund for the difference.

Due to restrictions, and an abundance of caution, we are unable to host the following camps:

Week 1-  Dodgeball, Fitness, Swim

Week 2- Basketball, Gymnastics, Soccer

Week 3- The Christian Athlete

Week 4- Cheer, Culinary School Boot Camp, Flag Football

Week 5- Lacrosse, Tennis

Week 6- Golf, Martial Arts

Week 7- Baseball/Softball, Basketball

Week 8- Basketball, Fishing

Week 9- Junior Police Academy, Volleyball

Week 10- Dodgeball

TO ENSURE YOUR CAMPER STILL HAS A SPOT IN CAMP KROC, WE HAVE ALREADY TRANSFERRED THEM INTO AN AGE APPROPRIATE KROC ADVENTURES CAMP.

Access to Ice Arena

As of now, Ice Arena activities are also on hold, as we do not have a clear building and program re-opening date from the County. This will affect Intro to Ice for weeks 6 and 8, as well as Hockey Camp for week 7. If we get clearance to run these camps we will notify you that they are proceeding.  We are monitoring government channels other counties re-openings and are expecting an update soon.

Access to Aquatics

As noted by the CDC, there is no evidence that COVID-19 can spread to people through the water used in pools; that proper operation and disinfection of pools should kill the virus that causes COVID-19.  With this information, we are hopeful that the county will soon allow pool access.  For planning purposes, we have not scheduled swim time for the 2 weeks of camp. We have been working closing with our Aquatics Manager to allow for private pool access for our campers and to convert Junior Lifeguards Camp and Intro to Water Polo Camp into Aquatics Classes ran through our aquatics department.

Scholarships

We traditionally host our Annual Heroes Scholarship Campaign during Spring; unfortunately, with the COVID-19 Crisis we were unable to host it this year.  We highly encourage parents or groups, with the financial means, to anonymously sponsor another camper either in part or fully.

This fund allows for children, that families otherwise would not afford it, to thrive in camp. We have very limited funds, approximately 1/3rd the normal amount, from a foundation.  On May 26th we will be dispersing these funds, on a first come first served basis, through the Family Resource Center.  Forms and instructions are on our website atwww.sdkroccenter.org. In line with Social Distancing, the Family Resource Center will be implementing a touchless application system by turning in your documents through email or a physical drop box. Please mark out any sensitive information such as social security numbers.

You will need to provide:

-Identification for all household members (driver’s license or birth certificate)

-Proof of all income sources for anyone over 18 (pay stubs, unemployment, cash aid, etc.)

We are truly looking forward to seeing you and your camper this summer!! May the LORD cause you to flourish, both you and your children. ~ Psalm 115:14
