Kick off the season with Friday Night Lights, our summer youth flag football clinic designed to introduce kids to the game the right way! We emphasize the fundamentals, fun, and fair play of the sport.
Ball Carrying Fundamentals
Our coaches teach kids how to confidently and safely carry a football using proper grip, posture, and technique. Players practice holding the ball securely while running, learning how to protect it from defenders and reduce the risk of fumbles. Coaches also demonstrate how to hand off the ball effectively to teammates during plays. These essential flag football skills help young athletes build confidence, coordination, and game awareness on the field.
Catching Techniques & Receiving Skills
Young athletes learn how to catch a football with confidence using proper hand positioning—whether the ball is at chest level or coming in from above. Coaches demonstrate key catching techniques, including the “diamond” and “basket” hand formations, to improve accuracy and reduce dropped passes. Players run various passing routes and practice receiving throws from both coaches and teammates. These drills help improve hand-eye coordination, timing, and teamwork—core skills for success in any youth flag football game.
Throwing Fundamentals & Technique
Coaches teach players how to properly grip and throw a football with control and accuracy. Young athletes learn correct hand placement on the laces, body positioning, and follow-through techniques that improve both distance and precision. Players practice by tossing the ball back and forth with coaches and teammates, helping build muscle memory, timing, and communication on the field. These skills lay the groundwork for confident passing and quarterback development in youth flag football.
Blocking Skills & Pad Drills
Players learn proper blocking stance, hand placement, and body mechanics to safely and effectively block on the field. Coaches teach the fundamentals of using open hands and strong posture to maintain control and avoid penalties. Athletes then put those techniques into practice using blocking pads—building strength, balance, and quick reaction time. These non-contact drills develop confidence, footwork, and the essential skills needed to protect teammates and execute successful plays in youth flag football.
Teamwork & Sportsmanship in Action
Young athletes experience the spirit of the game through friendly scrimmages that highlight communication, encouragement, and respect. Players take part in team huddles, cheer each other on during plays, and learn how to work together toward a common goal. At the end of each scrimmage, kids practice good sportsmanship by lining up to shake hands and say “good game.” These moments build character, foster leadership, and teach the values that make youth flag football more than just a game.
