The Salvation Army offers assistance to those in need through a variety of outreach efforts both in and outside of The Salvation Army Kroc Center. Additionally, The Salvation Army offers a variety of programs, services and assistance both nationally and globally that you may qualify for.

Learn about The Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center provides emergency services to individuals, families and seniors in need who meet eligibility requirements. Services include monthly food distribution, diapers, hygiene kits, feminine hygiene, spiritual counseling with our Chaplain, resume review, parenting classes referrals, partial generous scholarships to Kroc programs and more. Emergency services are restricted to those in the Kroc Center's service area (zip codes 91941-91946, 92105, 92115, 92119, 92120, 92182). San Diego residents outside of this service area can request emergency assistance through their local Salvation Army. All will need to provide identification, proof of all sources of income, and a utility bill for all individuals in their household.

For housing resources (shelter, rental assistance, motel vouchers), furniture vouchers, and cash aide please visit 211SanDiego.org or call 211 for access to a 24-hour confidential and comprehensive community database.

The 211 database, also includes services provided by other Salvation Army’s including shelter and the Adult Rehabilitation Center.

The Kroc Center has a Membership and Program Scholarship Program. It is important to us at The Salvation Army Kroc Center that everyone, no matter their income level, be able to attend and benefit from the life-changing opportunities available here. To access emergency services and scholarships, you must submit an application and required documents to be approved as a client.

The Application Process

How to Apply for Emergency Services or Class Scholarships

Emergency services are restricted to those in the Kroc Center's service area (zip codes 91941-91946, 92105, 92115, 92119, 92120, 92182). Kroc Center scholarships are available for qualified community members in San Diego County. Funding is limited.

1. Fill out Intake form

2. Choose which type of scholarship you wish to apply for and fill out the designated required application (choose one):

Arts, Dance, Day Camp. Ice, Kroc Jr Theatre, Music, Sports, Swim Lessons

You must apply with all documents 4 weeks before a session starts to be considered for scholarship.

3. Provide eligibility documents

The following documents are required for all members living in the residence (including roommates, extended family and non-family members):

Identification for all members of the household
Photo ID required for all adults
Shot records or birth certificates for anyone in your household under 18
Monthly current gross income for all members of the household (most recent tax return documents preferred, one month’s pay stubs, TANF/Calworks Notice of Action, child support statement, Social Security benefits statement, disability incomes, educational class schedule verification/financial aid statement, cash aid, student loans, college financial aid, food stamps award letter, unemployment benefits statement, alimony, child support income, Section 8 rent portion letter, etc.) Attach all household income verification documents to your completed application.

4. Approval process Turn in all documents including Intake Sheet, Scholarship application, IDs, utility bill, and proof of income to the Family Resource Center office (See office Hours) or by email to [email protected]. You will be contacted regarding eligibility and next steps by email or mail.

Kroc Family Resource Center Clients,

Drive through Food Distribution is every Friday from Fridays from 8:30AM to 2:00PM effective February 2024 for those living in 91941 – 91946, 92105, 92115, 92119, 92120, 92182. We also offer period supplies, diapers, wipes, baby food, adult diapers as available. Please wear a mask and stay in your car.

Access and Crisis Hotline

Crisis Hotline

If you are in crisis and need to speak to someone immediately, please contact the Access and Crisis Hotline (24 hours a day/7 days a week) at 1.800.479.3339. If you have a medical or psychiatric emergency, please call 911.

Emergency Services

Individuals and families residing within the Kroc Center’s service area that find themselves in emergency situations may request assistance in the form of food boxes, clothing vouchers for interview clothes, children’s pajamas, diapers, household items, period supplies, personal hygiene items, and domestic phone cards. Eligibility guidelines apply. Services may have limited availability. Additional emergency services can be found in San Diego by calling 211.

A food box and produce are given to clients with updated files each Friday. Clients must have an updated file in order to receive food.

The Family Resource Center offers free information and referrals, discounted California ID Cards and enrollment in SDG&E’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Energy Assistance Program. We also offer referral to ESL and parenting classes.
