Teen Fitness at the Kroc Center

Jul 11, 2023 | by Glynis Eckert

The Kroc Center is excited to announce new programming structured for teens in the Fitness Center. On Mondays and Fridays, a teen fitness orientation is available at 4PM for ages 12-15. Led by Health & Wellness Manager, Jay Lancaster, this orientation will provide teens education on the weights and cardio machines so that they may begin their own workout plan. Previously, teens at the Kroc Center needed an adult to accompany them to use the facilities.

This one-time $10 class will assist teens to learn about our fitness equipment, how to safely use it and general fitness/ weightlifting etiquette. Successful completion will allow teens to access the upstairs zone. Beginning this Fall, a structured Teen Lifting Club will begin at the Kroc Center.

Teen fitness plays a crucial role in the overall well-being and development of adolescents. Regular physical activity and exercise during the teenage years have numerous benefits that extend beyond just physical health. Firstly, regular exercise helps teenagers maintain a healthy weight and reduces the risk of developing obesity-related conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. It promotes strong bones and muscles, improves flexibility and balance, and enhances overall physical strength and endurance.

Engaging in physical activities during adolescence has a positive impact on mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood boosters, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Teenagers who participate in regular physical activity often experience improved self-esteem, body image, and a better sense of overall well-being.

Teen fitness promotes healthy habits that can be carried into adulthood. Establishing a routine of regular exercise during adolescence sets the foundation for a lifetime of physical activity and reduces the risk of sedentary behavior in later years. By instilling healthy habits early on, teenagers are more likely to maintain an active lifestyle as they transition into adulthood, leading to long-term benefits for their physical and mental health.

Teen fitness is of utmost importance as it contributes to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of adolescents. By encouraging regular physical activity and exercise, we can promote healthy habits, prevent chronic diseases, and enhance the overall quality of life for teenagers. Investing in teen fitness today ensures a healthier and more active adult population tomorrow.
